What is your weapon of choice?
So what do you use to achieve the perfect headshave?
I've recently made the move from Mach3 to Fusion.
Not only is the shave closer, I get more shaves with one blade.

The Headblade is a tricky little contraption, especially around the ears and the back of the head. I admit to giving it a go, but found it hard to maneuver, and I wound up with several cuts. I've had the greatest success with Fusion shave gel and Mach3 blades. Can't speak for others, but that's my cut on this.

The HeadBlade is the best thing that's ever been invented since whitebread. Dude, don't wuss out. You gotta give it another go 'round. Take it slow and go with the flow. If you don't apply too much pressure and ease up on it, you'll be fine.John wrote:The Headblade is a tricky little contraption, found it hard to maneuver, and I wound up with several cuts.

Good advice. I used to think that by applying pressure to my HeadBlade, I'd get a closer shave. You're right about easing up on it. It takes practice. I'm still not getting a perfect shave, but I will continue headblading until I get it right.BladeRunner wrote: Dude, don't wuss out. You gotta give it another go 'round. Re: What is your weapon of choice?
Biggest trick for getting behind the ears is to go up the back of the head right there. Comin' from the front just doesn't quite work right and will usually leave a bit of stubble right in the corner where the top of the ear connects to the head. If you come up the back, from just below the ear, you'll everything along that hairline no problem. I second the notion of putting little to no pressure on the headblade when shaving. It mentions this in the instructions that comes with it, which is the opposite of what most cartridge systems advise. The Fusion, Mach 3, Extreme 3,Sensor, and whatever else all say to press firmly. Do this with the headblade and you'll either nose over and slice yourself or end up with some generally nasty razor burn. I do a single pass from front to back with a little touch up and get no real irritation of any kind because of that. Actually learned the no-pressure technique thanks to face shaving with a double edge razor. Great for learning proper shaving technique and paid off well with the head. There are a few different types of headblade and cart options out there. Personally, I find the Sport, with the wheels, and the Sensor Excel twinblade carts to be the best combo for me. Try a few combos and play with not applying any pressure whatsoever and you get a wonderful shave. Oh, I don't shave against the grain on the back due to a proclivity for razor bumps. Otherwise, I would. I love that super clean smooth feeling, but it's not worth the aftermath.

Timpac, that was a very informative post for a newbie like myself. I've also been getting razor bumps on the back of my head. Read about the Tea Tree Oil product that you mentioned in another thread and will see if it helps me with that problem.

I highly recommend Jason Tea Tree Soothing "Gel". I like Jason products, mainly because they are practical in price and are organic, using ingredients typically found in nature to heal you. I'm prone to break-outs. Since this is a "gel" and not oil-based it helps keep my head in top form. And at only $3.99 for a 4oz tube of Jason Tea Tree Soothing Gel, it's a bargain.

Ugliest mishmash of design styles ever. I've seen that fusion monstrosity with the light before. Talk about overpriced and silly. The fusion itself works well enough for headshaving, but that light...

I can't really see the point of the light. Even is you were shaving in the dark I can't imagine that it would be much help.

Reminds me of the screwdriver flashlight set that my son gave me last father's day.

I wouldn't shave in the dark. Even if there was a black-out, I'd wait until the morning to shave.Joey wrote: Even is you were shaving in the dark I can't imagine that it would be much help.

I've finally mastered the HeadBlade and I must say it really cuts my headshaving time in half.

I have a hybrid shave routine. I shave down the dome with my Panasonic Linear 8243 (shave wet in the shower), then follow-up with the Gillette Fusion.
Smooth!

I'm a two-timer too. I headblade just before dinner and lectric shave in the morn. My Uncle MightyA got me into the double routine. Picked it up from his forum pal Al Denton over on HSC.

Being a last year college student, it's nothing fancy. I currently use the Panasonic ES4026NC Sonic-2 Pro-Curve which I got as a Christmas present. Not the best but it currently serves my needs.

It makes sense to Headblade with a Headblade.
