How often do you shave?
I can't go more than 3 days without shaving my head? How about you?

Re: How often do you shave?
I maintain a completely smooth dome 24/7. Every once in a while, when I'm on vacation or on holiday, I'll give it a rest for 2 to 3 days. I get the closest shave when I resume shaving.
That's my head's way of telling me to give it more time off. I know I should, but the perfectionist in me won't have it that way.

My head is currently on a 5 day/2 day schedule. 5 consecutive days (M-F) of shaving and 2 days being lazy. I can't go more than a weekend without shaving my head.

Re: How often do you shave?
Last year I gave my head a winter break from Xmas to New Year's Day - @8 days without shaving. I wear knit caps during the winter and they can be uncomfortable with one or two days growth underneath. For that reason, I try to shave every day.

Re: How often do you shave?
I'm still new to the world of headshaving. My head is still in the process of hardening.
The first month I shaved on a two day basis, first with, and then against the grain. Now that I'm shaving every day, I don't see any time off for my head in the near future. Another reason for the daily shaves is "velcro head", which my lady complained about when I was initiating my head.

It doesn't look like she's complaining.Luke wrote:Another reason for the daily shaves is "velcro head", which my lady complained about when I was initiating my head.
It all depends what kind of mood I'm in and if I have all my shaving supplies. I don't claim to be a perfectionist. There are periods of time when I go for a week or more without shaving.
It's easier shaving every day, than shaving a day or two days growth off.

It take two shaves a day for me to get it right.

Re: How often do you shave?
I usually go about 4 days between headshaves. I was just out camping for a week where a good shave wasn't too practical but first thing I did when I got home was shave my head.

Troy, good to see you've established a routine that works for you. Later this month, I'm taking my two boys for a week of camping and fishing, so my headshaves will have to be put on the back burner. Don't forget to protect your head with sunscreen or a hat, especially when out in the midday sun. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Thanks, Tyro. I've been bald on top for a long time so I've been used to the sunscreen and/or hat routine, although I've noticed with a completely shaved head there are areas I never had to protect before now. Thanks too for being one of the guys who motivated me to go all the way and shave everything off a couple of months ago. I'm liking the naked skull a whole lot.

^ Whoa, sir, thought you were a long time headshaver. So you're new to this no hair look.
A shaved head works well for you.

Hey, thanks Luke! Yep, my first total shave was on May 8 (a red-letter day for me). I had been buzzing my hair with a trimmer set at 1 which left a short stubble for a long time and I didn't know if I'd ever go completely clean, but thanks to some encouragement to give it a try, and knowing it would grow back in a few days if I didn't like it, I did it and immediately thought "oh yeah"! Now I start getting antsy if I get a few days growth.

Most start out that way (#1 buzz). You'd think being so close to bald would be a no-brainer, but in actuallity it it takes lots of hemmin' and hawin' to take the giant leap.Troy wrote:been buzzing my hair with a trimmer set at 1 which left a short stubble for a long time and I didn't know if I'd ever go completely clean

Yeah, I did it early on a Saturday morning in order to give me some time to get used to it before going out in the real world on Monday. After many days of hemmin' and hawin' I decided the night before "I'm gonna get up tomorrow and just do it". Turns out though I went to a party that night and no one noticed the complete shave so it wasn't that much of a difference.

It's a non-issue with others. People really don't make a big deal when going from little hair to none.

Regarding the issue thing, people really don't give a rat's @$$ if you have or don't have hair.

Yeah, I've worked though that whole issue thing and now I'm the one who doesn't give a rat's @$$ what anyone else might think. Now if I could just convince a couple of buddies to do the same thing and see what a fully shaved head can do for a man's confidence. But haviing been there myself I've just to give them time and keep on encouraging them to give it a try.

The apprehension experienced when one first takes a razor to the scalp is something we've all gone through.
After it's all done very few folk care to comment.
