It's Beginnining To Look Like Christmas
This could be a place to show off your Christmas decorations, trees, presents, goofy family photos, local Main Street photos, etc.
I put up the lights earlier this week. There are no candy canes or snow men.
Guess you could call my holiday theme, nautical New England "minimal".

Nice job, John. After seeing the Danny Devito film, Deck The Halls, I've also toned down my Christmas decorations. Devito took LIGHTS to the extreme and made the Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center look quite grim.
This year they're going high tech with LED lights at Rockefeller Center.
It's a real beauty as always.

I'm also a minimalist when it comes to holiday decorations. Since I've become a headshaver, I'm even more of a minimalist. Just a wreath on the front door and some garland.

I wouldn't call that minimal? Looks more like bare-bones to me. The falling snow adds a nice
effect to this thread.
Here's what I meant by extreme decorating.
There GLOWS the neighborhood.

The trees on Wilshire Blvd. are decked out in a minimal of holiday glitz.

I never knew that Palm trees could be decorated for Christmas. It makes sense that the bark gets the lights.

For real? I never knew the temps got anywhere near freezing over there. I do recall from HS Earth Science that temps go down with increasing altitude. I just didn't know those mts where that high. It's a pretty site. Looks like a dusting of sugar. That should get you in the holiday mood.Soapbuddy wrote:We got a sprinkling of snow at the top of the mountians this morning.
Our first snow was yesterday. An inch that melted very quickly. Personally, I do not look forward to significant snow. I don't mind the shoveling. It's the traveling on ice that I don't like. With significant snow comes significant slush, that freezes into significant ice come sunset. And then there's black ice in the morning.

Yes, for real. There is a contest every year on who will guess the day that the tops of the mountains will get snow. You win a year pass for the tram that will take you up there.Rodger wrote:For real? I never knew the temps got anywhere near freezing over there. I agree with Rodger. Snow capped mountains are nice to look at.
But ice covered roads are NOT.
Count yourself blessed that you don't have to travel in such treacherous weather.

Wishing you a warm & sunny X-mas.
Next to your fireplace and lighted tree, of course.

This is a long forgotten verse to Irving Berlin's song, White Christmas.
Accounts vary as to when and where Berlin wrote the song. One story is that he wrote it in 1940, poolside at the Biltmore hotel in Phoenix, Arizona. He often stayed up all night writing — he told his secretary, "Grab your pen and take down this song. I just wrote the best song I've ever written — heck, I just wrote the best song that anybody's ever written!"

This is a long forgotten verse to Irving Berlin's song, White Christmas.
The sun is shining, the grass is green,
The orange and palm trees sway.
There's never been such a day
in Beverly Hills, L.A.
But it's December the twenty-fourth,—
And I am longing to be up North
I'm dreaming of a White Christmas,
just like the ones I used to know
Where the treetops glisten and children listen
to hear sleigh bells in the snow
I'm dreaming of a White Christmas,
with every Christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright,
and may all your Christmases be white.
May your days be merry and bright,
and may all your christmases be white
The orange and palm trees sway.

When temps highs are in the 40's in Vegas and Tampa you know the entire country is in the deep freeze. Brrrrrrrrrrr.

Re: It's Beginnining To Look Like Christmas
A white Christmas came two late.
This is what my front driveway looked like yesterday, after some hard-core shoveling.

Wow! That's a lot of snow. Looks pretty, but I wouldn't want to shovel it.
Re: It's Beginnining To Look Like Christmas
I'll second that. Lived most of my early childhood in the midwest. My dad was a real cheapo and refused to buy a snow blower or even an electric shovel. My brothers and sisters broke our backs each winter shoveling dad's truck out of the driveway. The pain still persists, even so many years after.Soapbuddy wrote:Wow! That's a lot of snow.
