I have a goatee and the other day someone made inference to it as a circle beard. Is there any difference?

A "circle beard" has a larger circumference than a goatee.
A "goatee" is more squared off than a circle beard and is edged at the jawline.
A "chin mitten" is just a stacheless circle beard.
