Cocktails, anyone?
I don't know if anyone has posted this, but it is fun:

My favorite: the Jack Rose. What about the rest of you?
My grandmother, who worked as a bartender in the 1950s-60s, was fond of a drink called the Pink Lady. The recipe sounds rather vile though: gin, grenadine, and egg. Can't say I'll be trying that one anytime soon.

That's some combo. Sounds more lethal than vile.
Growing up I was a "stick". My grandmother added egg to my afterschool milk. It tasted horrible. It was many years later that I actually found out she was sabotauging my milk with egg. Back then it commonplace to fortify milk with raw egg. It's a wonder that those drinks didn't kill me. No way would I even conceive of having a drink with egg in it. Not even holiday "egg nog".

The Black-Eyed Susan is the traditional drink of the Preakness. This is how it is served at the Alibi Breakfast at Pimlico.
Ingredients:
Preparation:
Fill a highball glass with shaved ice, add the liquors first, then top off with orange juice and sweet and sour mix. Stir and garnish with an orange slice, cherry, and stirrer.
This is not the original recipe, which was better tasting in my opinion, but is the current official recipe. The original called for equal parts of Cointreau, Mount Gay rum, and Vodka topped off with orange and pineapple juice, and garnished with a lime wedge.
FYI - a Black-Eyed Susan cost $8.00 at Pimlico on Preakness weekend.
Be careful! It's deceptively strong!

I'd prefer the original with pineapple juice.

Whenever I'm at the track I make it a point to order a "Hennessy 44" cocktail.

With neither the winner of the Preakness or the Kentucky Derby participating, today's race at Belmont is sure to be a dud.
I'm betting on the drink d'jour....
The Belmont Breeze
2 oz Vodka
1 oz Gold Rum
1/2 oz Strawberry Liqueur
1/2 oz Fresh Lime Juice
1 tsp Grenadine Syrup
Pour all ingredients into a cocktail shaker half-filled with ice cubes
Shake well, and strain into a cocktail glass
Garnish with a lime wedge and a slice of orange, and serve

It's NYC. You probably need to win the trifecta to afford that mixed drink.
I heard something interesting about mixed drinks earlier today.
Which will make you fatter, a Margarita or a Mojito?

I'm posting this link to baldjoey's song-inspired cocktails.

In addition to writing and playing my own music, the necessities of the music business have afforded Joe the opportunity to become a seasoned Bartender and Mixologist. Below is a cocktail list he has written and designed in celebration of the release of his new CD, Yankee Twang. Joe thinks you will find that these liquid delights sync-up very well to their song title brothers and sisters. Simply pour, shake and press play! You can email Joe with any questions at info@baldjoey.com and he will guide you through them all...

I like to think beyond beer and wine in the summer, especially if I know I’m going to spend a long holiday weekend in the desert with friends. Here are the 4 cocktails for the 4th of July. These cocktails are sure to help you celebrate with a smile on your face. And of course you’ll need to eat! Stay safe and have a great summer holiday.

4 teaspoons superfine sugar
6 ounces (3/4 cup) silver tequila
24 basil leaves, plus sprigs for garnish
3 ounces (1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons) triple sec
6 cups small ice cubes
Place 24 watermelon cubes on a baking sheet lined with parchment. Cover, and freeze at least 1 hour (up to 2 days).
Puree remaining watermelon and the sugar in a blender until smooth. Pass through a sieve lined with cheesecloth into a bowl. (You should have 3 cups.)
Place tequila and basil in a glass pitcher, and crush with a wooden spoon. Stir in watermelon juice and triple sec.

Ever had a beer cocktail? Call them brewtinis, beeritas, beertails or just plain tasty. Mixed drinks with beer are in these days, appearing in trendy restaurants and bars all over.
I highly recommend a BLACK AND TAN - mix of stout and pale ale.

If any of you have the time this summer to get to the Jersey Shore you must check out the three new beach bars in AC. Same hotels, different names. Start with the one at Trump Plaza, head on over to Sammy's at Bally's and then end your evening at the Hilton.
