WWE Royal Rumble 2011 Empty WWE Royal Rumble 2011

WWE Royal Rumble 2011 03

The Royal Rumble was raised from 30 participants to 40. "How is this relevant?" you might ask. Well, to put it simply, it means John Cena will win the Royal Rumble. By raising the number of participants in the Rumble, you stack the odds against the WWE's resident "Superman." John Cena, as we all know, is a much better challenger than he is a champion. Statistically speaking, Cena has overcome almost every challenge that has been thrown at him. With Punk's Nexus and Barrett's faction, the odds are increased even more. But that just makes the victory that much sweeter whenever Cena wins.

But that doesn't mean that Cena will win! Unfortunately, it does. You see, now that the Royal Rumble has 40 participants, this will be another accolade for John Cena to accomplish: The first person to ever win a 40-man Royal Rumble. Who better to be in that role than John Cena (sarcasm). By having a Rumble with more participants, the WWE has granted themselves an excuse to allow Cena to win the Rumble for a second time. I know that there have been plenty of other multi-time Rumble winners, but you have to think about it.

Back in the days when Hulk Hogan, Shawn Michaels and Stone Cold won the Rumble twice (or in Stone Cold's case, three times), there was only one World Title. Winning the Rumble was the only way for guys to get into the title match at Mania (unless it was going to be a Triple Threat or Fatal Four Way, but that didn't happen until Wrestlemania XX and 2000 respectively).

There is very little that John Cena hasn't done. He's won the Royal Rumble, the Tag Titles, the Elimination Chamber (the only person to win more than one, as far as I can remember), the US title, the World Title and the WWE Title (a total of nine times betwee the two World Titles).

I'm not saying he's not allowed to enjoy another World Title reign. He's the current face of the company. However, the Royal Rumble is an entirely different accolade entirely. With talented guys on the roster like John Morrison, CM Punk, Alberto Del Rio, Christian, etc. who have yet to win the Rumble, having Cena win seems like a cheap way to put Cena in the main event.

Look about three lines above this one to see my opinion on Cena: HE'S THE FREAKING FACE OF THE COMPANY! If he wants in the main event, he'll get in the main event and he doesn't need an unnecessary Rumble win. Let someone else have time to shine.

Even worse, if Cena wins the Royal Rumble, he'll end up "breaking the curse" of the Royal Rumble. You guys know what I'm talking about. The last three Rumble winners (Edge, Orton and, of course, Cena) have all lost at Mania. If Cena wins the Rumble, there is a 100 percent chance that he'll win at Wrestlemania. I mean, why wouldn't he? Would WWE really be stupid enough to have Cena win the Rumble twice and lose at Mania both times!?

I'm not keen on pay-per view, but this is one event I'm not going to miss.
