400 Crafters Set the Guiness World Record At Citifield

They're hooked on baseball! More than 400 crafters set the Guinness World Record for most people crocheting simultaneously at Citi Field yesterday.

"Ladies, gentlemen, boys, girls, get your hooks ready!" cheered "Inside Edition" host and longtime crafter Deborah Norville, who has her own line of yarn. "Three, two, one, let's crochet!"

Everyone cheered and crocheted away before the Amazin's took on the Marlins as folks from Guinness observed. Most crafters - 427 in all - worked on a project in Mets-appropriate orange or blue yarn, establishing the record for most people crocheting in the same place for 10 minutes.

"It's relaxing watching the game and crocheting - it's a kind of therapy for us," said Urmie Seenarine, 50, from Richmond Hill, Queens, holding up the beginnings of a blue-and-orange banner.

That crafter gent behind the lovely blonde looks like my cousin Aaron.

In retrospect it can't be him because Aaron's all thumbs when it comes to using needles and hooks.

In my senior year I had the option of taking some filler courses. One of them was a Craft's course. Not only did I master the art of home-made thing-a-ma-jigs, but I had the chance of meeting some really nice girls.

The closest I ever came to crafting was in Boy Scout Camp. I could make amazing stuff out of popsicle sticks and yarn.

Not me. Maybe a little bit of resemblance... maybe.

When I had hair, I looked scarily like Michael Connelly, the author.

But that looked like one crazy fun event!!

I've seen all sorts of promo events at both minor and major league baseball parks,
but this one I must say, is quite unique.
