To let it grow
I have been having thoughts of letting my hair grow out a bit. Mostly want to see what it looks like while I still have hair on the top of my head. This is all because of curiosity.
I still plan on contributing to this forum. It is a good place and I don't know how long it will be until I need to feel the smooth head again. It's great to be bald when camping and I will be going on multiple trips this summer so we will see how this goes. Hair may be kinda nice and I'm curious to how my beard will look with the hair.
I'm sure some of you come here because you are losing or have lost hair. I also know many are bald by choice. The message here is very positive. Real men do not need or want hair. I understand how many feel when your forehead gets bigger or things start to thin out. It is proof that you are aging and some would do anything to hide that fact from themselves.
If I had a lot of money I would put out commercials after every rogaine commercial that said going bald is nothing to be ashamed of. Whatever your circumstance is that has you bald you should embrace yourself for who are and avoid societies shallow ways.
I know this is long but I thought it was important to share with all of you. I just let my thoughts go to the keyboard and appear in the way you see them.

Re: To let it grow
Nothing wrong with growin' what you have for a while. One of my long-time shaving friends Brett (BaldAndre) was a headshaver for nearly ten years, and recently decided to grow his hair, a flat-top. He's cool with his new look. It's fun experimenting and changing your looks. Just look at JJ's changing looks. He's maintained the "slickdome" for years but recently grew his hair out. NJE03 is one of the bearded guys here that has some head hair. And the same with outsider82. Head hair will definitley take your beard into an entirely different realm. Nobody here ever said real men don't need hair. It's a personal choice. Maybe one day the growin' bug will hit me too. I'm not ruling it out. Looking forward to your updates bro. And remember there's a lot more to this site than just the shaving threads.

I like the shaved head beard combo too much. I have decided to keep with headshaving. With regards to my comment about real men and hair I meant to convey that I used to think that way about myself.

Mike, like I just told Pete (outsider82), once the shaving bug has bit you, it's difficult getting it out of your system. You have have one fierce look going on bro. You said it's very different from any previous look you had. Dude, you ROCK bald & bearded. If that's the look you want, keep on keeping on!mcpacker wrote:I like the shaved head beard combo too much. The longer you headshave, the less likely you'll be having second thoughts about regrowing your hair.

MC are you still razor scrapin' your head? My advice to you M8, is that you've got the total bald look. Don't ruin it with some hair.

I have been letting it grow but I don't think it works for me. I'm going to shave tomorrow night before my 8 day trip I'm going on Tuesday morning. I like the head shaving routine too much. Going to let it grow though for the eight day trip. Too much of a pain to do in the woods.

Sounds like fun! Just saw an episode of the show "Keeping Up With The Kardasians". Bruce Jenner took his entire family on a very cool camping trip. It was so much fun watching them, that I decided to plan some camping time this summer.
Enjoy your trip, Mike.

Re: To let it grow
Every once in a while I get curious to see what I'd look like with hair, but it would take so long to get it to grow out that it wouldn't be worth it to satisfy some passing curiosity. Due to a skin injury I recently had to let the hair grow for a week and a half and that's the longest it's been in 10 years. At times I liked the way it looked, but I hated how it felt. I really did feel like it was a foot long, and then whenever I'd see someone with a freshly shaved scalp I felt like I had just gotten kicked out of some club.

Once you're part of the "club", it's hard leaving, even for a three day holiday. Thought I'd give my old noggin' a rest over Memorial Weekend. Started my "lazy" experiment on Friday, but by Sunday I just had to scrape the scruff off my head. It just didn't look or feel right.

I have tried over the years to grow back hair, even did the flat for almost 3 years but just couldn't stand it and shaved it off. Now I look forward to shaving and the fresh, bald head!

I wouldn't call what Jenner & Company did... camping. They had an RV will all the conveniences.BladeRunner wrote:Sounds like fun! Just saw an episode of the show "Keeping Up With The Kardasians". That's not roughing it. If I went camping, I'd have to let my hair grow wild. But as soon as I got back to civilization, I'd head to the shower and shave.

McPacker, it's time for an update. Are you still giving your scalp a razor free vacation?
If you're reading this, it's OK if you decided to continue growing your hair out after your camping trip. You'll know when it's the right time for you to resume headshaving. In the meantime enjoy being the razor free MC.

I tried the hair thing for a bit. It got to about 1/2 inch but I hated it. I am bald and bearded currently. I actually need to shave in a little bit. I got the sandpaper feeling when I rub my head.

Mike, I've grown my hair out a few times too since opting for the hair-free dome. Maybe if it was the winter or late fall you would have kept your hair for a longer time. But it's summer dude. Let those sun rays do their job. Tan that dome and enjoy a maintenance free tan head.

It's a been a while since I had some hair on my head and I'm thinking about giving the 1/2 hair a try.mcpacker wrote:I tried the hair thing for a bit. It got to about 1/2 inch but I hated it.
A shaved head works when it's warm, but when there's a chill in the air, I need something on my head.

I'm back for good
In the last few months I let my hair grow a bit. I thought it was looking OK but it made my thinning hair really show. In a way I was kinda bummed about balding but I will NEVER do any of those hair growth things. I also tried a high and tight but I wasn't happy with it either. So I did something I know I like. Shaved it all off. I realized it is foolish to fight a good thing. I like how I look after a fresh shave.
A funny thing about my hair adventure is when my hair was about 1 1/2" long I was never carded at bars. Now with the shaved head I am always carded
Here is the hair:

Woa dude, you look so different with hair (on your head).
A shaved head definitely ups your bad a$$ image. It's cool that you were carded.

I've been carded more frequently since I axed my thinning crown.
