Fusion vs The HeadBlade & Mach3 Empty Fusion vs The HeadBlade & Mach3

You've heard me rave about Fusion Hydra Gel, so this week I finally teamed the Gel with a Fusion Blade and gave my head a total Fusion shave. I admire the smoothness of the Fusion, and I seem to be able to get more shaves out of the Fusion blade cartridge than with my Mach3 or my HeadBlade. It also seems to leave my head smoother a little longer than the others. However, it seems to have trouble on certain spots on my head, where it just cannot get it smooth.

The Mach3 gets every inch of my head smooth, but I typically only get one or two shaves out of a cartridge. After one shave the blade cartridge is usually gunked up fiercly with oil and hair and I just can't get it cleaned out. The Mach3's swivel head is superior in my opinion to the Fusion. It just seems to flow with the contours of my head better than anything else.

I'm going to retire the headblade when I run out of blades. Currently I use it for the front to back strokes only, then finish up the sides and back with the Fusion or M3. I've just cut myself way too many times on the back of my head and it is useless for the sides, and the area around the ears. I also need to dispose of the blades after one shave because they get gunked up with oil and hair and I cannot clean them out. I tried doing 2 shaves with a single blade and it was a bloody disaster on the second shave.

Once I run out of blades for the Fusion and HeadBlade, I will probably shave exclusively with the Mach3. I haven't totally given up on the Fusion yet though. I still have 4 more cartridges to get through, and I may end up liking it better, who knows.

I use the Fusion with great success. A little Hot-Six oil under the regular Barbasol (.98 a can), go against the grain and I have a slick shave.

I tend to agree with AtomicGleam's assessment of Fusion. It tends to gunk up more readily then the Mach3 blades. Machs are less expensive and yield a smooth headshave.

When it comes to my head, I'm willing to shell out a few more bucks for my blades.
