Tips For A New Shaver

Quick questions. I just shaved my head completely for the first time last night.

- my head feels irritated - I'm assuming this is probably just bad shaving technique on my part - I'll just probably live it for a while - if I'm probably wrong about this let me know

- I want a bit of shine on my head (had short buzz before so skin colour not bad) without shining too much - suggestions?

Welcome Jim. Don't worry about the irritation. That's to be expected for a new headshaver. Give it time and as your noggin' toughens the irritation will subside. In the mean time a post-shave application of witch hazel should ease the pain.

And to add some shine to your head, run your head under cold water for a couple of minutes after every shave and apply a moisturizing gel. BaldGuyz Gel works great for me. My head's like a mirror by the time I'm finished.

That guy's "Ko"-Tribe. I believe he was referring to the headshaver kotribe.

SlimJim, first of all I'd like to personally welcome you to the Brotherhood of the Skull.
Now if you want extra shine on your noggin', I suggest you finish your headshave with a generous splash of Afta. Works like a charm, everytime.

Jim, if you adhere to this 5-step method your head will have a shine on your bald head.

Step 1: It is imperative to practice proper shaving methods to make your bald head shine. Always use a sharp razor to shave your head, preferably a multiblade version like the HeadBlade (see Resources below). Use a moisturizing shaving gel, and always soak your head in plenty of warm water to soften the hair before you start the shaving process.

Step 2: Make your bald head shine after shaving by using only mild soaps and skin cleansers when you bathe. Soaps with harsh chemicals and perfumes can dry out your scalp and irritate the hair follicles, making your skin look dull and splotchy. Stick with soaps and cleansers that are made from all-natural or organic ingredients.

Step 3: Use pure aloe vera gel or lotion to make your bald head shine after shaving. Aloe vera keeps the skin on your scalp properly moisturized, even when you spend a lot of time out in the sun. Just massage a healthy handful into your scalp immediately after shaving, and dab your skin dry with a thick towel, taking care not to rub back and forth.

Step 4: Use sunscreen to help your bald head retain a healthy glow, especially if you spend a lot of time outdoors. Excessive exposure to bright sunlight can dull and dry your scalp, resulting in discoloration, sunburn, peeling, freckles and even skin cancer. Select a sunscreen with an SPF factor of at least 15, or even more if you are fair-skinned.

Step 5: Apply common moisturizing skin creams, such as Pond's or Noxzema, to keep your bald head shiny and smooth. Cold creams that have been around for decades are inexpensive and very effective in keeping skin smooth, soft and glowing.

A word of caution, shavem8's. Cold cream is not for sharing. Buy your own jar.
